Providing dental insurance to the employees has been a major priority for many employers. Though not as volatile as the group medical, dental benefits still offer a challenge.
There are national, regional and local dental insurance programs. And with dental insurance, there are usually four categories for benefits. They include preventive care, basic care, major care and orthodontia. There are many dentists that will not participate in a dental network offered by the insurance carrier. And so many employees will either need to change dentists or utilize out of network benefits, which are not as strong as in network benefits.
Based on the needs of the employer, a thorough analysis is completed and the proper insurance carrier and plan is implemented. A few of the key insurance carriers that are reviewed include Delta Dental, Humana, Guardian, Principal Life and Advantica Dental. Along with these dental carriers, there are a few medical insurance carriers that also provide comprehensive dental plans.
